Height
: 1357 Feet above MSL (Approx)

District : Alibaug , Raigad

Some details about the Fort :
This hill-fort, 7kms from Alibag is an old fort of Shivaji's times at 1357ft from sea-level. A dirt-track road to this fort begins at Khandala on Alibag-Pen road to the East. Sagargad aka Kheddurg is not a sea fort as the name might belie. It is located in the Alibaug region, a good 452 meters above sea level. Famous for the waterfall enroute and beautiful views of the surrounding region including the western coast and the Arabian sea, it also boasts of an underground tunnel connecting to the Colaba Fort, 7kms away!

Kanhoji Angre, the great Maratha Admiral and naval genius whom the colonial powers feared, ruled this region successfully from this fort. The trek to this hill fort will last for about 2 hours and will pass through dense vegetation. Bird watchers claim to have spotted White Rumped Vultures, Crested Serpent Eagles and the melodious Malabar Whistling Thrush, so get your binoculars along!
Sagargad, which is situated on a hill can be approached by three different routes. They are : Khandala route, Vaghede route & Bail Khind route. We decided to take the Khandala route.
